Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus (EEHV)

Good news! Dr. Laura Richman is now able to receive samples to test for EEHV. Please see the attached document for specific instructions on sample submission. Since the lab is only running part-time, it is important to contact Dr. Richman or her tech, Erin Latimer, before sending samples.

With Dr. Montali’s departure to Australia, Dr. Scott Terrell, a board-certified pathologist (and heck-of-a-good-guy), will be taking over the responsibilities of Elephant TAG/SSP Pathologist. His contact information is:

West Nile Virus (WNV) update

There have been additional reports of high WNV titers in elephants without evidence of clinical signs. If you have performed WNV serology on your elephants, could you please send any information with titers and dates that could be tabulated and shared? If you don’t wish for your institution or animal to be identified, that can be kept confidential but it would be helpful to others to see how many elephants have seroconverted as many facilities are still struggling with the issue of vaccination.
